Challenge #231 Back to School- Teacher Gifts

Hey there crafty people!

I hope everyone's having a good school year so far!  I now have a sophomore in high school, one in 8th grade, a 2nd grader, and my last one started preschool!  So, a few hours of empty house most days, but more teacher to make gifts for...so it all works out!

So this challenge is all about the teacher gifts or other Back To School projects you've been creating.  My share for you today is my 2nd grader's teacher gift.  She got the same teacher my (now) 8th grader had for 2nd grade, so I already know she's fabulous!

While school supply shopping, I found something I have never in 11 years of school shopping seen-half size composition notebooks!  And they're not just smaller size....they were like someone cut the composition notebook in half across the middle and used the top and bottom separately!  So cute!  I knew immediately I had to alter them.  I usually also make my kids' teachers a stack of note cards with envelopes that they can use to communicate with parents in the first weeks of school.  So I put the covered notepad, the cards, envelopes, and a matching pen all together in a cello bag and wrapped it with ribbon.  Perfect!

Don't forget you can always check the LNS Challenge Blog to see what the rest of the design team has cooked up and to upload your sample so we can all admire it!

As always, thanks for looking!

Father's Day Frame and Card Class

Hello Crafty People!

Today's share is a project I worked late into the night last night on.  On Wednesday, I have a class where my ladies are creating a home decor frame and one card for the special Dad in their lives.  Since there are so many ways to use Stampin' Up! product to make masculine projects these days, I struggled over the decision of what to make this project look like.  But in the end, I realized I had never done a piece with "The Open Sea" and a couple of my ladies had mentioned that they really liked the nautical theme for a masculine project, so that's what I ended up going with.

I can't show you the card yet, because I'm saving it for next week's post...so you'll have to be patient.  But know that it coordinates with this project, so if you like this one, please check back for the matching card!

Also, forgive the use of some retired products here...I don't usually use much retired stuff because it doesn't seem fair to show you a fun project and then tell ya "sorry, you can't get that anymore"...but a couple of these things (listed in red) are just too good to let go of!

As always, thanks for looking!  Comments and suggestions welcome!

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  The Open Sea, Word Play (last chance to order this!  Retiring May 31, 2013!)

Challenge 222-Sorry to see you go!

Hey there crafty people!

This week's challenge over at the Late Night Stamper's Challenge Blog is to create something using soon-to-be-retired products.  My project involves a little bit of new stuff, with a few retiring things thrown in, so hopefully I haven't bent the rules too much.  :)

I CASEd this from Amy Storrie, and made it as a housewarming gift for a dear friend and former neighbor who just bought her first house.  She has been through a tremendous amount of stuff over the past few years, but with a wonderful husband, a healthy brand new baby girl, and now a beautiful new house, she has finally come out on top.  When I got this new stamp set in the mail, this particular saying made me think of her.

I hope you all enjoy it, and that you'll stop by to play along!  You can check out the design team's samples, and submit your creation HERE.

Supplies Used:
Stamps: Feel Goods, A Round Array, Papillion Potpourri
Cardstock:  Calypso Coral, Pool Party, Gumball Green, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White

Challenge 220- Switcheroo!

Hey there Crafty People!

I'm back with my sample for this week's Late Night Stamper Blog Challenge.  This week, the design team challenges you to switch it up a bit-that is, use a card as inspiration for a scrapbook page or other 3D project, or vice versa.  Maybe you've seen a sweet scrapbook layout that you want to scale down a bit into a card-GREAT!  Check out plenty of inspiration and post your own fabulous creation at the Late Night Stampers Blog!  Can't wait to see what you come up with!

So, my sample for this week is a collection of goodies I made for my husband's 2 secretaries at work...since this past Wednesday was Secretary's Day.  I used the Happy Hello Simply Sent Kit that you may have gotten for FREE during Sale-A-Bration!  I got the idea for the purse from a Facebook post by Lyssa Zwolanek and CASEd the cards from a sample I saw by Josee Smuck. Both of these ladies are fantastic Stampin' Up! demonstrators whose work I love.

Here's the inspiration images:

Supplies:
Stamps:  Oh Hello, Perfect Words
Ink: Daffodil Delight, Basic Gray, Baja Breeze and Gumball Green Stampin' Write Markers
Cardstock:  Whisper White, Baja Breeze, Daffodil Delight, Basic Gray
Accessories:  International Bazaar DSP, Big Shot, Chevron TIEF, Happy Hello Simply Sent Kit, Baja Breeze Seam Binding Ribbon, Daffodil Delight 1/8" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon, Antique Brads, Stampin' Dimensionals

Ok...until next time-Thanks for Looking!

VC Rocks Blog Hop and BLOG CANDY!

Hello crafty hoppers!

Are you enjoying the hop so far?  I hope so...there's a lot of fabulously creative ladies in this group, and I love a reason to visit each of their blogs all in the same day.  My "ideas" folder is overflowing!  If you arrived here from an email, and not from the blog hop path, you're probably wondering what I'm talking about.  This weekend is the first Blog Hop for the VC Rocks group's 2012 Season.  This is an amazing group of Stampin' Up! demonstrators who get together online and host all sorts of challenges, blog hops, and lively conversations in an effort to celebrate the release of the new Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog.  It's really alot of fun to see what the ladies have to post, so please, check out the hop.

To start from the beginning, click HERE to go to the VC Rocks group homepage.
Or you can just continue from me, and it will eventually loop you back around.

So....here we go!
Today's share is a set of coasters I made using the Beau Chateau DSP, which of course will be retiring in just 13 short days.  This was one of my favorite paper packs of this year's catalog, and I will be sad to see it go.

To turn these tiles into coasters, I used a Mod Podge-like glue to adhere the DSP to the top of the coaster.  Then I applied 3 more thin coats of the glue on top of the paper, drying in between each coat with my heat tool.  This not only adheres the paper to the coaster and gives it a glossy look, but it waterproofs it from my sweaty ice-cold sweet tea glass!  To give the coasters a more finished look, I used my Crumb Cake Stampin' Write Marker to color the edges of the coasters so they wouldn't be such a stark white.  Finally, I applied cork feet to the bottom to make them more stable, and more end-table friendly.

BLOG CANDY!
I hope you like today's project...and at the end of the weekend, I will draw a name from all of my current subscribers/follwers, and the lucky winner will receive a set of these coasters and a few other goodies as blog candy!  So, if you like what you see, please be sure to sign up as a follower!

Ok...off you go to see what Tania has in store for you over at Something to Scrap About.

Click HERE to go to the next stop-and Happy Hopping!

Supplies Used:
